Nepean Synchro Recognized at Ottawa Sports Awards

The Ottawa Sports Awards to honour local athletic achievement in 2015 was held at Algonquin College on January 27, 2016. Nepean Synchro swimmers, coaches and parents occupied two tables, and cheered loudly and proudly as Nepean Synchro was recognized throughout the evening.

Team MG (swimmers Emily Armstrong, DimitrinaBayarova, EllenaDamini, Caitlin Hayes,Madisyn Smith, Kristin Stremlaw, Natasha Strong and Jade Warren, as well as coaches Michaela Kostron and Greer Gemin) was recognized for its undefeated 2015 season in the 13-15 age category, including a gold at the national-level competition of the Hilton Invitational and their Championship win at the Ontario Open Age Groups competition. For MichealaKostron, this was her second consecutive year leading a 13-15 age group team to a Championship season.

Duet DS (swimmers Natasha Strong and Jade Warren, as well as coach Deanna Sokoloski)was also recognized for its undefeated 2015 season in the 13-15 age group at the provincial level, including a Championship win at the Ontario Open Age Groups competition.

Kristin Stremlaw, now training with the Regional Training Centre in Toronto, was awarded the 2015 Athlete of the Year for synchronized swimming. This award recognizes her significant accomplishments in 2015, which included her solo 1st place finish at the East Regional s competition, her 2nd place finish at the Ontario Open Age Groups competition, her representation on the national 13-15 team which competed internationally at the 2015 Mediterranean Cup in Rome, as well as the invitation to join the Regional Training Centre, a high performance training centre for elite synchronized swimmers.
